This simply is not possible with modern computer and transponder equipped vehicles. Depending on the year, make and model of car you have, it can be quite costly to replace a key that operates your vehicle. Key replacement is not so simple as giving the VIN, or vehicle identification number to a locksmith, as many people seem to think it is. In years past, it may have been the easiest course of action for a locksmith that was making a first key for a vehicle, but it is no longer the case. Despite what many people may lead you to believe, modern cars are quite robust in security and close to impossible to steal without actual possession of an operating key. It is very important that you have at least two operating keys for any vehicle to avoid lockouts and costly key generation, in the event that your only key is lost or stolen. If offered, consider registering your vehicle with your dealer or reputable locksmith company to assist in first key generation and programming of the transponder in the key, should you lose your last key to your vehicle. As an alternative, keep a second or third spare operating key to your vehicle in your home safe and replace it if you were ever to lose your first key to your vehicle.
